ASCE GMU Steel Bridge Team Qualifies for Nationals

The GMU American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter congratulates their Steel Bridge team in winning third place overall at the regional ASCE Virginias Conference Steel Bridge Contest and qualifing to compete in the National Steel Bridge Competition at the University of Washington from May 31st to June 1st.

The GMU ASCE Steel Bridge team competed against fourteen universities from across Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. in the ASCE Virginias Conference from April 4th to 6th, 2013. The GMU team’s 1:10 scale model steel bridge was designed and constructed entirely by the GMU team and was evaluated based on construction speed, stiffness, attractiveness, and durability. The GMU bridge placed first in construction speed, stiffness and economy and third place in aesthetic display.
