Event Time and Date

Friday, June 30 2017, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
7 Days until this Event

Get involved this summer with Mason’s Innovation Food Forest managed by the Office of Sustainability.

Free, hands-on training and valuable work experience with growing food using permaculture techniques are available right here on campus. Learn about landscape design, botany, managing pests, growing fruit and so much more! Free food while fruits are ripe and as it lasts. Try fresh fruits such as peaches, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, figs, pears, nectarines and more. Bring home some herbs to cook with like garlic chives, sage and oregano. Relieve a headache or cramps using medicinal herbs like anise hyssop, yarrow and mint. Bring your friends or family for a fun educational activity or schedule a tour to learn all about it, by emailing Doni at dnolan6@gmu.edu.

The Weekly Walk-In Summer Volunteer Schedules are:

Innovation Food Forest: Tues/Fri 4-7 (in Presidents Park Greenhouse if raining)

These weekly walk-in schedules are set for volunteers (students or community members) to show up and help with watering, transplanting, mulching, weeding, composting and more. You do not need any prior experience to volunteer and you do not need to notify anyone that you're coming. You can just show up during these times and we will be there to teach you everything you need to know. If you want to bring a large group you will need to schedule it in advance.

If you plan to volunteer I recommend wearing clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting wet or dirty. Also, please bring your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

You can find your way to this site using the GMU Fairfax map. The Innovation Food Forest in near Innovation Hall and the Johnson Center (not labeled on the map).

Thank you and I hope to see you soon in the greenhouse or gardens on campus.
